The 2023 Thailand Masters has already delivered some unexpected results, with former top men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah falling in the first round. The world No. 41 duo lost to Indonesia’s Pramudya Kusumawardana and Yeremia Rambitan in a nail-biting three-set match. Independent pair Boon Xin Yuan and Wong Tien Ci also suffered a first-round defeat against Taiwan’s Su Ching Heng and Ye Hong Wei.
But, there is still hope for the Malaysian team, as two other men’s doubles pairs, Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Low Juan Shen, moved into the second round after a close call against India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Rethinasabapathi Kumar.
Sadly, Leong Jun Hao, the national men’s singles shuttler, didn’t make it past the qualifying round, losing to fellow Malaysian Yeoh Seng Zoe. However, Seng Zoe was eliminated in the next round by Hong Kong’s Chan Yin Chak.
Tomorrow, the competition continues with Ng Tze Yong, Cheam June Wei, and Soong Joo Ven all set to take the court in their first-round matches. Meanwhile, former Badminton Association of Malaysia member S Kisona will face Thailand’s Pornpicha Choeikeewong in the women’s singles first round.
Don’t miss out on the thrilling action from the Thailand Masters!
