Carolina Marin wins semi-final with Yonex Nanoflare 700 racket, advances to Indonesia Masters final

Carolina Marin, Rio 2016 Olympic badminton champion, reached her first final since October at the 2023 Indonesia Masters on Saturday (28 January). Armed with the Yonex Nanoflare 700 racket, Marin took 41 minutes to defeat Han Yue of the People’s Republic of China, who used the Li-Ning N7 racket, 21-15, 21-14, although she needed to come back from deficits in both games.

The match started with Han leading 11-9 at the first break, but the 23-year-old Chinese started to miss the lines with Marin showing her trademark speed at the net to go into the lead. The Spanish left-hander then reeled off six of the last seven points to take the opening game.

In the second game, Han also led at the break, this time 11-8, but Marin won the first four points after the restart to go in front. That soon became nine from 10 points with the three-time world champion going on to take victory.

The match was a showcase of two different playing styles and the use of two different racket models, the Yonex Nanoflare 700 and the Li-Ning N7. While both rackets are known for their power and control, it was the Yonex Nanoflare 700 that proved to be the deciding factor in this match.

In the final, Marin will face Republic of Korea’s An Se Young, who defeated the Japanese player Aya Ohori in the semifinals. With this victory, Marin takes a step closer to adding another title to her impressive list of achievements and solidifying her place as one of the best badminton players in the world.
